Default Is my A4 abnormally sluggish?

I haven't had this car for that long since I just bought it not too long ago but I do have a '99 BMW 323ic (manual trans) and a '98 Isuzu Trooper (Auto trans)to compare it to. Although the Audi has the least horsepower out of all of them, it seems leagues behind as far as acceleration and I'm wondering if that's normal b/c it's an automatic transmission or b/c of something else that can be fixed? I thought it would be peppy but it seems to need some time to wind up before it accelerates. Is this normal or is there something that I should have checked out? It's a '98 A4 1.8T Quattro with an Automatic transmission and 84K miles.

A stock A4 seeming sluggish? Sounds very normal. Get a chip and then compare again... Tip will always be a little sluggish shifting though. The time until it winds up is called turbo lag. You always have a little bit of that up to 2-3k rpms.

Add a passenger, and you might as well drop anchor.
