Props for doing it right and not wanting to do it as cheap as possible. If your thinking new pistons, look at a stroker kit. Its fairly cheap to put together, using an OEM 2.0 crank. Def looks like some sludge in there. Did you find the reason it locked up? How did all the bearings and crank journals look? SLudge shouldnt cause the engine to completely lock.

Now then this baby here is a K04 replica made by CNRacing a guy i know sold me one a while back and that thing is still going strong on my dads audi 3 years now only cost me $190 $200 with shipping lol! from the guy i know that is.. bam way to kick the original branded crap in the *****. so i picked another one up last one the guy had lucky me and here it is same as my dads still loving the replicas ! my brother has a t3 replica for his Honda that thing still holding up no issues lol so yea. TEST! don't guess! what might work what might not , and if you had bad luck well that's the world for you **** is gonna break branded or none branded that's life.

waiting on other parts to get here and i well take pics on the build . thanks for following the post. i hope i remember to put it all back together i only worked on an audi ones that was my dads years ago only swap turbos lol never build an engine but i like a challenge.

You should be able to start now since rod bearings go last. Have you had the walls honed already? Keep it up, it should be a nice fresh motor when all done.
