My Spectre / K&N 2.8L Intake w/ Heat sheild
Nicely done - I like it. Like Hiwords was saying, and I've seen in some DIYs before, some heat insulation on the engine side (the reflective ducting insulation) might be a good idea. I also like the idea of the double-shield, maybe with the insulation in between (it doesn't look so great just sitting out there).
As for the gains of the intake on the car, very minor, but above 4000 RPM it sounds great. To the poster asking about extra sound in conjunction with exhaust, it'll be a different sound. You'll still have your exhaust tone, but the induction roar on top of it will sound very nice and complement it well. Friends who've driven my car with intake (who don't have one themselves) have always commented positively on the sound it makes. The biggest upside is not having to buy another air filter ever again - that alone makes it worth the money if you're going to keep your car awhile.

As are MANY VW/Audi parts... most new cars have full plastic intake plenums... Are they CHEAP plastic parts is the question that should be answered.
And I'd agree with the statements regard performance gains with a cone filter. It's not noticeable (in fact, on some cars it hurts the performance). But it does sound great!

yup thats why i put my stock airbox back on... horrible acceleration with the cone filter
And if anyone's interested, I do have a PIWIS printout of MAF and fuel trim readings of a 05 Carrera S that I worked on. It had idle issues and poor acceleration after an EVOMS cone filter intake was installed and I have documented proof. A few weeks after the install, the owner had me swap the stock airbox back in and enjoyed much better acceleration and a much smoother idle. Most hear the sound and think it's faster, but if you're really in tune with the car, you might feel differently.
Like I said, not a fan of cone filters, but nice install!
