That's no lie! I would imagine he would get more looks then I did in my 70' Charger (with authentic rusted side panels).

On a more serious note, I talked to the dealership today and they said the timing beltandwaterpump were replaced at 45K by the dealership, so I would guess Iam ok till around 135K. Is this correct? They are also looking into the wheel bearings and control arm. Will keep you posted. If everything check out, I am pulling the trigger tomorrow. I was thinking of getting an extended warranty to cover me just in case. Warranty Direct is quoting me $1400 for 3 years/75,000 miles. Any thoughts on the warranty?

It makes no sense for the timing belt on a 2.8 to be replaced at only 45K miles. I'm not saying that it's bad at all to do the timing belt early, but if that was the dealership that suggested that the previous owner had it done at 45K miles, I'd be wary of them trying to rip you off for other services that you might not need yet. I'll they just said it was done at 45K, b/c the belt will look worn when you take off the timing belt cover, and they want you to bring it back in soon for another TB job. Definitely get the paperwork with the vehicle's VIN, etc... if that work was done by that dealership.
The only warrantee you would want to buy is Audi's 100K mile used car warrantee, but that car is already over at 104K miles. Other "warrantee companies" seem to not pay out fully for Audi service, due to the parts and labor being higher than Hondas... It's happened to a few members on here before, when a warrantee company doesn't cover the costs that they should.

I want to thank everyone for their advice. The dealership passed me the number of the former owner and said he would be glad to talk with me about the car. He said his plan was to keep the car for 10 years, but as his kids got bigger, he had to move up to something larger. Hesaid the car has performed flawlessly and ran great. I have to say he took great care of the car - the interior is flawless!

Also asked him about the timing belt replacement at 45K. He said the problmes were due to the pre-tensioners not being tight enough, so it caused the belt to wear. He had the local Audi dealership justreplace everything associated with the timing belt. Otherwise he gave me a lengthy list of everything he has done. These included a new radiator last year, new brakes - rotors - pads 15 months ago, new bearings and control arm (replaced only out of fear of failure - seems he was very **** about the car which is good for me!), and the Blizzacks were purchased in November of 07.

So, I bought it yesterday. Ended up paying $7100. I think it is a pretty good deal. My son was very excited and took het out last night. He said the car was amazing and all of his friends were jealous! Guesshis "Coolness" stock has risen. Thanks again for all the advice.
