Question Need new keyless entry switchblade

I bought my '97 A4 2.8Q this summer and it only came with the Valet/Emergency key (no button key). He said that it is already set up for the keyless entry, but his wife had lost the key. He didn't say if it was just the keyfob or if it was the switchblade key. Looking around the threads and on ebay, it looks like it would have been just the keyfob...

What is the FCC ID I need to match for the oem keyless entry?
Can I get an oem Switchblade instead of the keyfob?
Do I need to worry about a chip in the new key/blade?
How do I program the key chip and/or 3-button remote on a '97 A4?

ebay seems to be the cheapest for buying the oem switchblades...any other sites that would be around $50 for a new remote w/ new blade?

Thanks everyone in advance!

If you end up looking for a new 2-button remote, good luck finding one in decent shape. I've been trying to find a 2-button one for a while now, and every time I find one, it's in the same shape mine is in. 3-button ones are all over ebay, and cheaper than the 2-button ones.

1.) I think the dealer can tell you the FCC ID you need based on the VIN.
2.) huh?
3.) No...no transponder chips in ours
4.) I've been hoping someone could tell me that too.

1. Dealer for sure, they can tell you the CORRECT FCC ID for FREE
2. Those 2 sound the same thing to me.. all keyfobs are switch blade for our B5's
3. Chips in remotes didn't occur until WAY later, so no worries there
4. Easy programming.. check this

Also, don't go cheap on these remotes.. I have paid for like 3 remotes to finally get the 4th one right.. so after all I should have just bought one from the dealer.. the FCC ID must match PERFECT, also the part number.. good luc
