Exclamation Need some advice, please! (Possibly buying A4 tomorrow)

Hi Everyone!

I apologize in advance for all the text, but I'm trying to be as detailed as possible.

I just recently sold my 99' Subaru 2.5RS Coupe because I wanted something a bit bigger and more refined. I've done a lot with Subaru's and japanese cars in the past, but am still quite new to Audi.

I came across a 2001 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro on craigslist and decided to check it out. I ended up really liking the car, and just wanted some advice as far as pricing and if this might be a good buy? This car will primarily be a daily driver for me out in Colorado.

Here are the details:
-Black with black leather
-150k miles
-5spd manual
-GIAC upgraded ECU
-ITG intake filter
-DICE electronics ipod/iphone integration kit
-H&R sport springs
-Bilstein performance shocks
-ECS tuning coilovers (I guess they convert the shocks and springs into adjustable coilovers? Any other info on these would be great!)
-Almost new Michelin snow tires

I was hesistant at first due to the high miles, but after seeing the car in person it is immaculate. I have never seen a car this old in such great condition (especially being a black colorado car!). The person selling it is the second owner and he has every single receipt for anything ever done to the car (maintenance, upgrades, even receipts for amsoil oil that he orders, and the original window sticker).

Almost all of the work has been done at a local Audi performance shop and there was a bunch of maintenance done a little over a year ago (12k miles).

Some work that I remember being done from 1/25/11: timing belt, cam seals, valve seals, water pump, etc. etc. (total was about $3k).

I am having the car checked out tomorrow through a friend who is a mechanic at a local VW dealer.

Bottom line is he is asking $6,500 for the car and I'm not sure how negotiable he is... Any advice as to if this is worth it since the car has been maintained so well with a documented history? How much should I offer?

Thanks in advance for any advice and I will attach some photos below!

That is really nice... Check out kbb.com and what price is for private party good condition, the work from there. Looks like a clean car well maintained. Your vw friend I'm sure can help as well. Do have him look it over before you make offer.

Thanks for the quick reply! It's hard going by kbb with any AWD out here in Colorado. I've had a hard time finding a car in this price range in decent condition, and most people ask more than what they're worth (I noticed this with past Subaru's I've bought and sold as well as any AWD or SUV). The kbb value is definitely lower than what he is asking, and I'm not sure how much he will move on the price -- Just trying to decide if being so clean and well maintained with records is worth paying more for. Sometimes it seems better to pay more for something you know was taken care of rather than not knowing any maintenance history or even if the oil was changed on-time/properly.

Here is the kbb value:
Excellent - $4,980
Very good - $4,705
Good - $4,555

What do you all think?

Always bear in mind that any modifications never pay out when selling unless the person buying understands what the mods are worth. KBB only takes into account mileage, tranny, engine, year, options, and general condition. That being said, with all the documentation for the important maintenance being with the car, it's a solid go. Since I can't see the car in person I don't know what offer you should start with but, personally, I'd be that guy that'd offer $5000 (pretty much Blue Book) and see if we couldn't meet in the middle.

it looks like a good deal. i just bought my 2001 a4 1.8t and had to replace the dipstick funnel they are a common part to go out. also im getin error code for advanced cams so geting the timing belt changed. the a4 is a very nice running car the ride and cornering is amazing. i paid 4k for mine blue book was 6k for the condition altho it had 150k miles on it. if it has been taken care of and not beat on i think it would be a nice car to get try to talk them down a little. but with the performance parts i think its already a solid deal. also its best to run a car facts on it to see what know issues have been reported on it. hopefully its a good car and you go with it. after driving subbys they dont compare to my a4 (aside from a wrx)
