Hi Guys,

I am considering buying a 1999-2001 A6 2.7T 6 Speed.

Seems to be unanimous that this is a great car.

I was wondering how well this car performs. I currently have a 2004 A4 Avant 1.8T, which is quite slow, as it is a big car. Then I have a 2004 Audi TT 3.2 which is quite fast, but a little car. I'm assuming the A6 will fall somewhere in between.

I'm wondering if there are any problem years I should watch out for. Or if there are any problems that A6's are prone to.

Also, if I were to consider chipping the A6, what other kinds of mods might I need to do, if any, to see a decent gain in power.

You should do a search for these questions, as they have been asked and answered many times. The car is a good choice for performance.

 

A search will yield a wealth of info. Ping southboroaudiguy for his URL (good links). I use it all the time. Good choice for a car to MOD but if your looking for more power/torque and do not want to MOD...go with the 4.2 v8

 

As people have said, a search and some reading will help you in making your decision. Lots of good stuff out there already. Check my signature for a link to my registry page -- there you'll find some good pointers for you.

One tip: see if you can find one with a sports package. Makes a big difference and will save you $1500 in suspension upgrades.

If your planning on doing any exhaust upgrading, I would go with an '02 where the exhaust is not turned down.

 

The fact that the 01 has a downturned exhaust should not be too much of an inhibitor. Many people have done various exhaust mods (exposed tips/full upgrade/etc.) to 01s by cutting throught the valence. The 02 was a year that had several changes that are more substantial than the exhaust changes (e.g., thicker glass to make the car more quiet). You'll also find numerous links to exhaust mods, including those that had to cut through the 01 valence.
