how do you take the side mirrors off the doors?

The glass just pops out of the mirror housing, there's like 3 clips that hold it in there. To take the entire mirror off, remove the triangle-shaped trim from the inside of the door to get at the screws that hold the mirror on

 

I'm trying to fix a mirror on a recent a4 (2001) I bought as well. Does anyone know about the electrical hookup? Is it easy to get to, or do you have to take the door panel off?
