Ive read on other threads it will cost around 2k-3k to fix.. Im looking to diy this job to save a little bit of cash, i have a buddy that works at the local audi/vw dealer so i could also save a little dough on parts. With that said i need to just see what im getting myself into? Can anyone help me with what the procedure would be? I havnt looked at it honestly still a little p.o it happen... any comments are welcome

You believe it broke or it did break? Pull off the timing belt cover and take a look.
What was happening when you think it broke? Where you idling or where you actually cruising at speed. I've heard of timing belts breaking but because the car was idling it didn't cause damage to the valves or pistons. More information please.
It can't hurt to give too much info when trying to diagnose a problem, especially on the internet!

^^What he said. Before you start buying parts for a timing belt job, you need to get yourself some more information from the car. Depending on the conditions and location of the valves/pistons when the belt broke, you may have what we refer to around here as "valve salad." The motors in these cars are interference engines. That means that the valves and pistons share the same space inside the cylinder, and if the timing isn't perfect they can interfere with each other; hence the name.
As Ian said, start by visually inspecting the timing belt. From there you can do a compression test and a leak down test, and have a pretty good idea of the health of your pistons/valves. I've you're SURE it broke, you might as well just take the head off and get it over with, because there's likey some damage to something someplace.

I say junk it (I'll buy it from you for $100 bucks), then just get a new car.
How many miles on the car, and when was the last time the TB was changed?
What exactly happened that makes you think the TB snapped?
Oh, and BTW, you're in the right sub forum

@ cca4, its hard to do a compression test with a broken tbelt lol.
But these guys are right, open that sucker up and see what's goin on. I too would like to hear what happened that makes you think it snapped the belt.

Okay, so i know the belt is gone... this sadly is not my first timing belt breaking experience. I was traveling about 55mph when it went from acceleration to complete power loss. I heard the valves being demolished by the pistons so i know i need a head, my only fear is that i did not crack a piston. After posting on here i talked with my friend at the dealership and he said it prob isnt even worth fixing so i plan to sell and get w.e i can get out of it... im asking 1500.... if you know of anyone interested please let me know it would make a great parts car or even if you wanted to go through the headache of fixing it a all around great car... It is a 2000 audi a4 1.8t quattro .... it has the tan leather interior with sable brown pearl paint... bose stereo, 6 disc cd changer etc... thanks for all the input... the reason i really decided to sell it is i need a car asap and my friend said he will sell me his fd3s for a partial trade with my sr20 and cash .... so please if you know anyone interested let me know....thanks
