Default new guy here

hey guys i just bought a a4 1998 audi AWD 2.8l 5 spd

got a few questions to start out with, when reading the level of the oil with the dipstick how do i read it? it looks like mine is just above min but idk werid dipstick so maybe im reading it wrong?

second is ive been reading, whats the special eq on the radio?

3rd i think my cruise control doesnt work, but i guess i dont really care lol, i hit the set button but nothing happens

also there is a clunk sound in my front suspension, i heard it and i still bought the car anyways, im hoping its not expensive fix, im going to have someone look at it when i get back from the work week since im traveling out of town and wont need to drive it. happens when i start and stop sometimes, when i turn the wheel tight in slow speeds, going over speed bumps, i know audi's eat suspensions, so best guessing would be any ideas?

next one is my key has a trunk unlock thing but maybe its just a feature i dont have? lol

also what kind of oil do i use in this thing

i was reading you know your a b5 owner and found out a lot of this cool stuffs, my fuel gauge no working either lol

what brand of gas should i use? i live in Seattle area and highest grade we have is 92 which i use

Welcome to the forums, Seattle.

The first thing you need to get familiar with is the search feature on this forum. By using it, you can find all kinds of threads on any topic you have questions about.

For example, if you search for "cruise control not working", I'm pretty sure you'll find a wealth of threads devoted to this common failure. I believe there is a DIY on how to fix that problem.

If your oil dipstick is the same as my 1999.5 2.8L, then it has two orange plastic bits on the tip. The oil should be between those two orange bits. You may also check the owner's manual, as I believe it has a pic of how to read the dipstick in there.

The trunk should unlock after pressing the "unlock" button twice on your key fob. Then simply press the trunk lid button in and open it.

There are many opinions as to what oil to use in your car. I think everyone agrees, however, that full synthetic oil, changed at regular intervals, is best. I use Mobil One 0w40, because I live in the land of the frozen Norwegians and Swedes.

Brand of gas is irrelevant, IMO. Just keep using the 92 octane and you'll be good.

That should get you started. Now start reading and learning. Oh yes, I hope you brought a thick wallet with you, because you're going to need it.

On a 2.8L you can use synthetic and it certainly won't hurt, but you don't really need to - conventional oil has served my 2.8 perfectly fine for all 205k+ miles it's traveled. Welcome, and as stated, the search will be a great asset. Also, take a little time to read the FAQ sticky post up top and browse through the DIY procedures in the DIY subforum. You'll learn a ton here and for your next lesson, I advise you to buy parts from a dealer only if it's an emergency where you need the part today, or if none of the site sponsoring vendors (GermanAutoParts.com, ecstuning.com, purems.com, etc) simply don't carry them. You'll pay far less through the vendors than at a dealership. Finally, go to the New Members subforum from the main page and read the sticky post called "Two Quick Actions for all new members" - that'll help us help you here.
