No start
I was doing some rather minor work on my B5 and now it won't start........it feels like the ignition is severly retarded. It will start and run for a second but almost like it was in 1st gear on a bike going 15 mph. I think it has to be something that is causing it to think it is super cold and needs to have full fuel and retard ignition; it has to be a computer set timing issue since when on the starter long enough it fires to what seems to be all cylinders buy my guess is only after a ton of fuel is pumped into the cylinders - it runs for a second, until the excess fuel is burned off and the normal deliver cannot keep up - something it telling the computer to go full retard on the timing.
Does anyone have any insights/service manuel or a Vag-Con (in the MKE area)?
I just put on new wires, checked the coils, and even swapped out ECU's with the same result.
Is it the G62 coolant temp sensor, O2 sensors. etc.....

I have a relatively inexpensive scan tool (not that sophisticated).......I was running is regularly and no codes are showing up. That is why I was hoping I might get lucky with someone locally who has a vag-com.
The car was running great and then....
I was changing the VC gaskets, so this is what I did:
- removed teh air tube and air box on the passenger side
- removed the PCV valve
- removed the VC's
- removed the plugs
- removed the reservior on drivers side
* the hard vac line broke - the one to the blue reservoir
I replaced/fixed the broken vac line and put everthing back together.
Also, I did a little welding on the muffler....the grounding point was only about 4-5" from the weld on the exhaust (NOT THE BODY), so this shouldn't have had anything to do with what is going on.
My guess is that possibly my connection to the line that I fixed is bad......causing a leak right at the start.
I have a vac guage and a vac pump.....what is the easiest way to check?

Good call!
Long story short, vac line to the FPR was kinked/bent/compromised and therefore hindered the fuel delivery.
Thanks guys!
