Default Oil burning smell

Could overfilling the oil cause the smell of burning oil?

Because the smell of burning oil is present but im not dripping oil and there is no blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. But I did overfill my oil probably by a half of a quart.

Thank you for any input you may have!

I'm not talking about a certain car really. Just in general can or does that happen?

Thanks though!
