Hi Guys,

New to the forum (hi!).

I purchased an A4 2.6 SE N reg (95) a couple months ago, loved the drive, seems like a pretty awesome car, however It seems to have sprung an oil, removing the cover from underneath the engine I appears to be leaking from the sump seal, although I'm not 100% certain this is the case.

It doesn't seem to be leaking a lot but obviously I need to get it fixed as soon as possible because the oil pressure warning comes on every now and again when I go over 2k revs.

I'm just looking to find out how much these repairs cost, such as a new sump gasket, and any other common oil leaks it could be.

Been doing some more research and it appears to be the 'cam chain tensioner gasket'?

It appears the oil is dripping onto the oil sump/pain and running down the side to where the oil filter is. This is the front right side of the car (uk model). Am I right in thinking this should easily be a £300-£400 job at the right garage?

well i had a mechanic do it and he charged me $270 for labor and i provided parts which was around $40. although u can get cheaper parts. what he told me is that if ur timing belt is connected to one of the camshafts (like in the 2.8 models) then that camshaft will cost more in labor to work on. hope this helps. if u plan on doing it urself, make sure u get the cam tensioner tool.

EDIT: sorry i forgot to add that i actually didn't just replace my cam tensioner seal, also replaced the entire valve cover gasket including the cam seal. if ur in there already, i suggest u replace those as well.

 

I'm not exactly familiar with that engine, but it sounds like it could be just the valve cover gasket which would be a lil less work because you wouldn't have to take out one of the cams. But then again, you might as well do both if you're in there anyway. Maybe do it yourself so you can save money and learn a lil something about your car.

 

Thanks for all the info guys, I've taken it to the garage for them to inspect what's leaking so that I can make some inquiries else where if they try and rip me off.

I don't really want to fix it my self as I don't want to make it worse

Ok just had a call from the garage, they say 110% it's leaking from the top of the oil sump so I'm going to need a new one, and it'll be a full days work at £55 pounds an hour. They also need to drop the sub frame etc.

Is this common?
