i have an 01 a4 1.8 5 speed. and i cant tell if i am leaking oil or tranny fluid. it seems to be leaking around the area of the back part of the belly pan. whenever i try to look where exactly it is coming from it wont leak but when i dont look it will. the fluid seems to thin and not dark enough to be oil. and it seems to far back in the motor thats why i was thinking tranny? i have checked the oil and it doesnt seem to be going down at all really. but does any one have any ideas?

But anyways, with a 01, its most likely the cam tensioner gasket. Its in the back of the engine and leaks where you are talking about. Stick your head back there and see.
