So, last night the weather got to about -20 (minnesota), and I am having large car problems now. I started the car this morning and let it idle for about 20 minutes, when i came back outside, almost all the oil had leaked out.

I looked under the car and there is a steady stream of it pouring out right by the engine on the driver side. Since it is freezing cold right now, i have not had a change to inspect it further.

Can anyone give me any pointers for when i start looking? Is there a common thing I should look at in that area? What oil lines are in that area?

Any help would be awesome!

what engine do you have? On the 1.8, i would check the filter and housing. it might be loose for some reason. Have you had the oil changed recently? Maybe they didnt get the filter on properly. The oil feed line for the turbo also is over that way, its under the intake manifold near cylinder 3. Its a pain to get to and i doubt it would start spraying oil all the sudden, though.

Same thing just happened to me the other day when it was super cold. What most likely happened is the 0-ring which sits on top of the oil cooler has slipped/cracked. You can get the part from ecstuning.com or you can get it from the stealership for a few bucks more.

Follow that link and the part you need is number 6 on the diagram of the oil cooler and filter. Changing it was pretty easy. You can do it all from the top of the car. To make sure that is where you are leaking oil, fill the crankcase back up with new oil and get a friend to start your car while you watch the area where I am saying the leak is.

I freaked out when I saw all my oil on the ground, but it turned out to be a super cheap/easy fix

Another common problem is the crankcase breather hose. B/c of high temps in the engine bay, the plastic on the hose melts/cracks and spews out oil when the engine is running. That's what happened to me and others. However, if your oil is "streaming" out, then this probably isn't it. Wouldn't be a bad thing to check on it while you are in the engine bay. It's a simple 15 min fix.

Less of Me: You are right, it is the oil cooler gasket! The only problem i have is how do i get the Jam Nut off?!?!

It says on that link it is a 26mm, but i am having a hard time with that. I think the problem might be that the only 26mm socket I could find was a 12pt. I am guessing that it doesnt sit good enough, and that I need a 6pt.

You, or anyone, have a recommendation of where to find a 6pt 26mm socket?
