oil tempature gauge not working + check engine light =?

Default oil tempature gauge not working + check engine light =?

i know i know bad form not posting the codes but i was curious if the two combined means that i have to replace the oil tempature sensor? and if so is it by the the oil filter.97 AUDI A4 Quattro 2.8

Scan the codes. If you don't have VAG-COM then you can get one on Ebay for little money. If you don't want to, then AutoZone/Advance/PepBoys/etc. will scan your codes for free.

Edit: Removed the part about the temperature sensor because it seems to be different on AEB.

My oil temp gauge doesn't work either. I have the 1.8 and on my model (1997-1999.5) the temp sender is in the oil filter housing. No codes here though. Get that puppy scanned!

Edit: seems to be different on AEB. Nevermind...
