Engine temperaure gauge not working
The engine temperature gauge on my 02 B6 A4 3.0 stop working Sunday night. The gauge never moves off the far left cold position. I haven't got a CEL or any codes yet, the car seems to idle and run fine, and I'm getting plenty of heat in the cabin.
According to the Bentley manual, there are two sensors (G2 and G62) within the same housing. The G2 sensor provides the input to the instrument panel control module and the G62 sensor provides the input to the engine control module.
Could the G2 sensor fail and the car not generate a CEL or throw any codes? The new part isn't that expensive, but from what I've read on this forum it's a bit of a pain to get at, so I don't want to replace it unless I'm sure its the problem.
Is there a way to test the G2 sensor? I couldn't find anything in the manual, such as measuring the resistance of the sensor at a certain engine temperature.
I've got 153k miles on the car, so it's out of the warranty range for the ECT sensor.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.
