there is nothing inexpensive that you can do to boost your power. pretty much your only option is supercharger. there is no turbo option unless you have really deep pockets, a machine shop, unlimited time, and mad mad fabrication skillz.

either way, pretty much expect to pay ludicrous $ for modest gains.

FAQ post up top should've been your first stop. It has the ABCs of B5 ownership.

im not normally one to rag one people for asking dumb questions, since ive probably been guilty of it on more than one occasion. but, lately it seems like there has been an explosion of "how can i make my 2.8 faster?" threads. and a simple 5 second search would tell you that the 2.8 is not a powerhouse. nor is it intended to be. if you wanted a fast b5 you should have done your research before buying it, and gone with a 1.8. or an s4. or something along those lines. the 2.8 is a phenomenal car in my opinion, and i love mine to death. would rather have it than a 1.8 any day of the year. but i know that its not a fast car. you want to improve your 2.8? make it look nice, make it handle, call it a day.

I think we've all been guilty of it at some point. Those who are unfamiliar with the car should look and see if there is a FAQ or other collection, under the notion that moat likely, any new owner question they have has likely been asked many times. It's the responsibility of the rest of us to go easy on new guys, both to help them become familiar with the site and its resources, and with the car itself. The more new blood we get, the better.

Thats like an idea I had about a year ago...

here's the quote from my post

When a new member joins the forums they immediately get a private message that...

1. Welcomes them to the site and lets them know where they can find not only the section specified to their cars, but also the classifieds, regional sections and the DIY section because these sometimes seem to be forgotten.

2. Informs them to read the stickies before going any farther because these will most likely answer at least one question they already have, and will give a ton of helpful information.

3. Inform them on how to find the search bar, and how much faster a question can be answered because many topics are repetitively brought up and talked about.

But like Jeremy said its easy for a "veteran" on the side to get upset when we were all there at some point.

I put it out there in the Moderator forum a long time ago, to have the welcome/activation email include a direction to read the FAQ and sticky posts first. I'm not sure how high up the InternetBrands ladder it'd have to go to get implemented, but evidently farther than it went.

Several pointers to the OP:

-Turbo would be the most ideal and cheapest way to make a 2.8 go faster. A twin charged 2.8 would also be bad *** but this one costs a little more. Check out used superchargers on eBay to save cost.
-Exhaust restricts power. Take that whole sucker out. Just run a downpipe.
-Airbox also restricts power. Also take the thing out.
-People don't know this but running a Pep Boys brand coolant is more efficient than running the Audi brand G12 stuff. The Pep Boys brand will keep the engine hot. Heat equals to more power in the engine. Don't forget to put about 3 quarts of octane booster. You'll be boss and will own the streets of wherever you live.

You're welcome.
