OK Yeah I'm a NOOB with Problems
Ok I have had my Audi for 3 weeks now and I'm starting to notice a bunch of little **** like my gas millage is only around 18mpg is that normal?? and also it likes to rev between 800 and 1100 RPM and a stand still idle for no apparent reason (even with all accessories turned off) and lastly the turbo does not seem to kick in right away usually have to get it to above 4000 RPM before I notice a difference. Any thoughts on any of this?? It is a 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro, with brand new turbo, coils plugs and wires, timing belt, and cadalictic converter. It has 170,000 miles on it roughly and I got it for 2800 because the reverse does not like to engage all the time. (this was the only problem they told me about) I want to have this car more than a couple months so I am willing to spend money on just need to know where to start lookin cause this is my FIRST Audi.
Thank You!
Thank You!
Spark plugs I'm not too sure I would have to pull one out and measure.
The idle problem is that it never stays at 800 it keeps jumping to 1100 and 1 to 2 second intervals holds for half a second then drops back down to 800. I live in Seattle so to temp is always around 45 degrees this time of the year which aint too bad I don't think, I was driving it pretty hard at first to try to get a feel for it, I have since calmed it down and I'm still getting 280 miles to a 15.4 gallon tank, which is not good at all.... also I put 87 octane in it at my first fill up 3 weeks ago not thinking, I ran the gas out and have since put nothing but super in it, and the check engine light came on because it was running lean and has never gone away since, don't know how to clear it without a vag-com.

The other thing these cars do is eat oil. Mine's chugging down about a quart per 1000 miles. I've talked to a few other owners, its apparently normal and Audi would even say its fine for it to eat even more per 1000 miles.
Yeah, the dealer had my 01 1.8 for oil sludge, and they overfilled the thing quite a bit
but over the miles and its gone down to right at the full mark. Idling would be a vacuum leak, the cars trying to compensate for a pretty large hole in the system sounds like. Bov blew off one time, ran just like you described (and i had that nice pshht sound so it wasnt bad.) Are you going off the display or actual miles? i average 16.7 according to the car, and about 250miles per tank.
