hey guys, i have a 2000 audi a4 1.8t and ive been having some overheating problems. my car started overheating a few days ago and i had heat. today i replaced the thermostat and magically, i have no heat and the car is still overheating. Can anyone help me as to what they think is wrong with my car and why it is overheating? thanks in advance!!!!

You might also want to make sure you installed the t-stat facing the right direction. Sounds dumb but plenty of people have done it.

 

as long as the spring part is on the inside, does it matter what way it gets put in?

 

That's all I meant, some people install it with the spring side facing the t-stat housing, which is wrong. Just ruling out the easy stuff!

 

okay, then yes i put it in the correct way. and whats the right way to "burp" it. Ive heard two ways one involving the resivoir, and another involving the lower radiatior hose.

 

I usually just leave the cap off the reservoir and let it idle for a few minutes, never had any issues that way.

 

yes i did that process too to no avail. still overheating

 

had it on for like 10 mins doing that. i just noticed the g-12 coolant sign on the resivoir. could it be overheating due to not using the g12 antifreeze
