It just baffles me that I have no heat now after the thermostat was replaced.

 

What's in it? If someone mixed regular coolant with G12, it turns into a thick sludge that could clog your heater core and/or radiator, causing both of your symptoms. What did the coolant that came out of it look like when you changed the t-stat?

It takes time though, it would have had to be mixed for quite a while to do that.

 

It was like a lightish brownish color?

 

Yeah that's not good. I would drain everything and flush it out with distilled water. I've been fighting this on my car since I bought it 2 years ago. I've had it power flushed with G12 3 times so far, almost got all the gunk out.

 

Okay. So mixing the two coolants could have caused the car to overheat and also not having heat?

 

It's definitely possible. When you mix G12 (pink) with regular parts store coolant (green) there's a chemical reaction and it turns into a brown soupy/peanut butter mess. These were taken of my car the day after I brought it home:







The best way to get rid of it is to replace the whole cooling system, but obviously that's cost prohibitive. I replaced the coolant tank, a couple of the more gunked up radiator hoses (and one that cracked later on), the t-stat, t-stat housing, and then flushed the whole system. I've had to flush it two more times since and replaced the coolant tank again, as the gunk tends to hide in there.

 

Get rid of that piece of ****! Audis are junk from the start. Go get a Toyota if you don't want all the headaches.

 

thats really bad. The coolant that came out when i changed the thermostat was brownish, but it wasnt thick. It was pretty thin when the coolant came out.

 

Yeah mine was an extreme case but you get the idea. I have a feeling a clogged heater core is causing your problems though.
