Painted Stock Wheels

Default Painted Stock Wheels

This evening, I painted my stock wheels using Krylon Rust Tough Gloss Black Enamel. I also painted the calipers silver, then painted a silver lip on the rims and painted the tops of the lug nut covers with the same paint. It was dark by the time I had the wheels remounted so I don't have very good pictures, but you get the idea:

I'm loving it, and I hope you're going to post pics of them on the car tomorrow during the day. That should be a good look for the car - we need full-on-the-car shots

Definitely will post better pics tomorrow. I only did the left side of the car though lol. I'm not sure how that's going to work out because there's supposed to be like 85% humidity tomorrow...so I may just have to drive around with black wheels on one side and stock on the other until the weather cooperates.

I'm excited to see how it looks in the daylight.

Eh, don't even sweat it. I painted my calipers on a 50 degree day with fairly high humidity and had zero problems. Or take them inside and paint

One nice thing about one side being done and the other not, is that you can take before-and-after pics that way to show the contrast.

Well, the only thing that worries me is that the clear coat goes on cloudy when it's very humid out. And actually, I just rechecked the weather and it looks like humidity won't be an issue after all.

This is going to be fun because I haven't posted pics of the one-piece headlights since I painted them black. I heart my Avant.

Well that's a good thing then - little luck there to help you out. I didn't clear my calipers, so I didn't run into that. I just brushed four coats and called it a day. Looking forward to the pics.

I've been thinkin about doing this for a little while now, cant wait for the pics to see how it looks on the car. How many coats did you do?

Concensus is to use a full can per wheel, so that the layers of paint can protect the finish. With several layers per wheel, if a stone kicks up and hits the wheel, even if it chips through a couple layers, there are still more underneath so you don't end up with silver spots on the finish. My bet is she did at least four coats - guess we'll have to wait to find out though.

Those should look great. The lip really sets it off, was that hard to do?

that is some hot sh*t for sure. i normally don't like those rims but when i see an a4 with black ones it makes me really want a set
