Most people don't notice the 2.8s unless you really go overboard like Euro_Tuner. His is a total show car now.

Two big things regarding the G2, and you have both covered:

1 - engine health (compression and leakdown). With your built engine I'm sure you're fine.

2 - boost level. Stock rods are only good with the standard pulley. You have aftermarket rods so you should be good with the 2.9" overdrive blower pulley to make the best power.

there is only 1 built 2.8 i know of. he did a twin turbo setup with S4 internals and piping with custom tune. he did it 4 years ago and it was a passat.

the G2 is a good stepping stone and you could still use it for the 4.2 when you decide to go bigger. you won't be able to run much boost but you can run a AWIC and meth for more performance. overall though, i really don't think it's worth it to play around with a non built 2.8, just too scary and you can't double the hp
