Its there for a reason. To protect your engine from water and whatever else is on the road. Trust me I have replaced many altinators on cars because of missing splash guards and belly pans.
what? how would not having a belly pan mess up your alternator? that **** is at the top of the engine compartment.

i took mine off the first time i worked on the car, its a pain in the *** and useless.

If you are set on replacing it and going to lower your car anyway, ge the Panzer Plate for ~$250. I looked into making my own a few weeks ago and for the price, 1/8" sheet aluminum for use as raw material was the same price or more than the Panzer Plate shipped. Nice skid plate, and I'l be ordering onewhen i get my tax return. I already bottomed out the oil pan (nothing serious this time) pulling into a gas station only once so far since loweringmy car withthe coilovers.

The oil change shop that didn't properly re-install mine just bought me a new one and installed it lol. ( I know I should do my own oil changes but my underground parking and condo rules won't allow it )
