Default Please Help...Code reader connect problem

I just bought a CAN OBD2 diagnostic code reader and when I try to connect to my 1998 A4 1.8T I get a communication protocol not found. Make sure your key is in the on position and try again.

This happened at Good Year to but I just thought the guy trying to connect was just doing it wrong or something. I have done searches on this site but have come up empty so far.

The only thing that I know of that is not stock in the motor is I get about 16 pounds of boost. The guy I bought it from said it had a software upgrade.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kelly

does your car start?

also, you have the stock engine, its just been chipped so now your turbo produces more boost.

My car runs awesome. Last year my check engine light came on and I found a guy to come over and plug in with his laptop to tell me whats wrong. It was my evap canister. I have replaced that but never got my engine light reset.

My tabs have now expired because I cannot pass an emission test with that light on.

Any ideas?

i would say that the connecter pins are messed up since you can't get a read from it. thats the only idea i can think of, it should work.

Umm...Well I will try it out on one of my other cars and see if it works.

I also read somewhere that it could be my after market stereo. It said it unhook it and try. I think it was left on when I was trying to connect so I will try just turning it off first.

If disconnecting the HU doesn't help, try using
a non CAN-Bus Code Reader
