Default Problems during hard Acceleration

01 A4qt 1.8t-Trip

Just replaced turbo- and a couple days later ran into some problems-

If i accelerate hard(drop 2 gears and go) The car stutters pretty badly. It goes then seems to bog, then go, then bog, then eventually grabs and goes hard. The check engine light starts blinking the moment i start stuttering then after everything becomes steady, turns off. The RPM's don't climb they stay steady with the acceleration. it especially happens when accel during turns. If i slowly accelerate everythings fine. just during hard accel.

I dont know if this has to do with anything but there is a growling when turning right, not wheel bearing whooshing but a growling.

I just replaced my turbo and im going through the same thing.

Only when mine does it, its rare, the boost gauge pegs at 20(max) and there's no cel.

Desert fox, are you chipped? 20 is wayyyy to high for stock. Both of you, check turbo to wastegate hoses and see if thats an issue, or a boost leak. jaycv, swap the ignition coils for 3rd and 2nd and see if the misfire moves to cylinder 2.

Well it acted up again for me tonight. Im all stock on a ko4 and regular ecu. Tonight under hard acceleration my car started jerking under 8lbs at like 5-7k and full throttle. then I heard an exhaust leak start.

I pulled over at a gas station and took a look at the cat/turbo gasket. It appeared thats where the leak was from and 2 of 3 studs/nuts had backed out. silly me forgot to loctite/tightly secure the studs, jsut the nuts.

Do you think the jerking has to do with a clogged cat?

I'd be careful with that k04, Might want to check the AFR with a wideband. It could, try running a test pipe or just a straight dump off the turbo and see if it improves

Well my wastegate from my k03 was still in my cat. And since It was clogged and I had it off I just gutted it anyway. Screw cali smog.

Anyway today it seemed to still be doing it, a violent fast jerking, however around full throttle I boost about 10 lbs now at 5k and the jerking happens at 5200-5400 under full load.

I think it has to do with the k04 not being tuned right. I thought it would be okay to run on the stock ecu for a bit because I am saving up for a chip/ ecu flash right now. I ended up not being able to work for the past 3 months because I broke my neck, so no moneys been coming in.

Any suggestions to the problem or what tuning device/ software I could use for cheap? im considering the 300 dollar awe chip, but Im not sure if it supports the k04. Even then im not sure if that will fix the problem.

I do think it is fuel as when I turn the key to the power position the fuel pump almost sounds like its gargling for a sec. I guess a wideband would be ideal, but that's like 200 I dont have.

I'm positive that gargling sound is normal. At least, I have it for a the first few seconds after it's turned on. I think I read somewhere that because the fuel tank is u-shaped, the fuel pump has to transfer fuel from one side to another to equalize it. I think.
