Default Quattro question

If I break a CV joint in one of my axles will my car continue to drive okay? enough to get me back and forth from work one more day(60 miles).

Heard a loud snap as I rounded a corner on a slushy road, but I continued to move so I kept going until I got home. Now I've got to get to work... little worried it's going to leave me sit somewhere

if one axle stops, they all do. the diffs send all the power to the broken axle

If it hasn't broken completely but you suspect it will DON'T drive it. Best case scenario it leaves you stranded but if it goes out at a high rate of speed ugly things can happen.

Thats pretty much what I thought... funny thing is, it sounds fine. No noises and even no vibrations or anything. I drove it to work and it seems like everything is okay. Putting it on the lift tomorrow and see what the heck happened. Weird.

Yeah if you broke it, it wouldn't move... Unless you have a convoy behind you and then 12 guys pushing it uphill into a parking lot

Where did you hear the sound, front or fear? If it was rear, inspect your coil springs - they're known to break down at the bottom where they sit on the spring perches.

I thought I felt it through the whole car. I have suspected my front front driveshaft because I've heard a very faint clicking from there once and a while (but it's been quiet for the past month or so).

Definately not a rear spring as I just replaced those last fall. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Default What I found so far

Here's a pic of my CV joint I suspect caused my noise. I found the smaller boot clamp had broke at some point but it didn't look like there was any grease coming out of it. I don't see any broken pieces inside yet, but there is some play in the joint in a twisting motion. There wasn't as much grease as I thought there should be, but it wasn't dry either.

Anyone think the inner part of the joint could have "slipped" on the splines of the shaft?
