Default Question about FMIC

I always loved the look that an fmic gives your car so im wondering if putting one onto my car which has a stock turbo atm will make the performance worse, i will be upgrading to a k04 sometime soon and i dont really care that ill have to take off someof it, so will i regret putting one onto my stock b5 or will it drive just the same? the only aftermarket stuff that is connected to performance is a milltek exhaust, also if i do install the fmic is it better to run with a stock intake then a cone intake? i dont have a carbonio yet.

With most FMICs you'll gain a bit of turbo lag due to increasing the amount of volume that must be filled compared to the stock FMIC. Back when I had a K03 with GIAC tune my car would boost 18-19psi, after installing a Godspeed FMIC kit it would only boost to 17-18psi. My car did feel like it pulled a bit harder.

On a stock ECU I wouldn't anticipate any gains, just a little extra turbo lag.

You don't need to drop $300 on a carbonio intake. It gives you a pretty box underhood where very few people see it, and it does essentially dick for performance - no more gain than dropping a K&N panel filter into the stock airbox. Your intake system can flow a ton of air - far more than a K03 (or many larger turbos) will draw. Get it if you like the aesthetics but don't buy it thinking that its cost means it'll gain you power.

Lag change is almost nonexistent. ESP on a car with no lag. The stock smic has a restrictive design and can't cool more than a single pass. A larger more efficient core will flow better and keep temps cool run after run.

Wrong again, Jeremy. I'll let you get away with inaccuracies this time, but it seriously has to stop. Now, everyone knows you need to get a carbonio intake for your car even though it flows more air than your tiny turbo knows what to do with. If you ask most ricers and rich people, they'll tell you that pretty things and stickers ADD POWER.
