question about rear tire wear vs front
so i bought my set of wheels with tires on them and the tires had about 6k left on them or so. i had them on my car for about 3k and i just took them off this friday as it will start to snow soon where i live. i check my rear tires and both of them are bald. especially on the inside. i had just had a 4 wheel alignment done 2k after i had the wheels. the front tires however the fronts are perfect. they barely looked like they had any wear from when i bought them. i do have a sub in the back but does it make that much of a difference? i'm absolutely astounded at how they've worn. i guess my question is, wuts going on? lol
no i don't have a print out. it was done at firestone. i had just gotten my wheels bearings done and i needed an alignment. there's no toe adjustments in the rears though, only camber right?
There is camber and toe adjustments in the rear on A4 Quattro. Always get a printout before and after alignment. Personally, I'd pay the extra cash to have an alignment done at the dealer or a suspension specialist. Without a printout, you'll never know if it was done or if you need addtional work.
i usually take it to kost where they always give me a print out but Upstatenya4 recommended this place where they had a lifetime alignment so i can always bring it back. plus, i drove the car right after the wheel bearings and the alignment felt really off. it definitely felt aligned after i got it aligned. i guess maybe they didn't get it within specs. thanks tweaked
It's possible also that they didn't torque things down correctly and you had slippage of a camber bolt. It's unlikely but anything could have happened. Call Troy tomorrow and explain what happened - there's no reason that the rears should have worn out. I'm sure he can get you in shortly to have it remeasured. And your sub weight in the back shouldn't matter - the car was aligned with it in the car so its weight has been taken into account.
On a different note, I went to Canton, NY yesterday (about 3 1/2 hours from here) and got my winter wheels/tires - 215-55-16 Hankook IceBears with one season on them, mounted on Audi black steelies, for $250. Couldn't beat it. I'm gonna wait another week or so before install though - it's supposed to be nice this week and I want at least one more week of driving the car on nice wheels before I put them away
