Default Questions about my car..Pics also!

OK i have a few questions about some pretty easy stuff.

1. I noticed i had a bad oil leak after i replaced my timing belt and waterpump, so i removed my belly pan to discover it was covered in oil and its a mess. Also my belly pan is broken is a few spots. Anyone have any idea what the leak could be? (i was thinkin cam tensioner). Also i was wondering do i actually need a belly pan? And if i do does anyone know where i can get a cheap new one?

Heres a pic of the belly pan.

2. The other day i went to the dealership to pick up a new oil dipstick. When i came home to make the switch i noticed that it was by far different than my other one. The new dipstick sits down in the engine more so of course it registers more oil, where as my old sits where it sits and it tells me im low on oil. Which on should i follow? Should i take the dipstick back to audi and get the right one?

Heres a pic of my dipsticks. The bottom one is the new one from the dealership.

3. I was looking to get some HIDS for my car, however im confused on the process. I was looking to get the DDM hid kit(http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p...=101&parent=85) but i was wondering if i could just plug these in without buying new headlights?

Thanks for the help guys!

Hey man, good questions.
First, hard to say where the leak is coming from with that little info. I would clean your motor up real well, clean off all the oil, then leave the belly pan off for a day or two and put some newspaper under the car. That way you'll at least have a general idea of where its coming from instead of a belly pan covered with oil.

You don't NEED the belly pan, but its prolly a good idea to put it on. You could get a stock one from the dealer, BlauParts, or you could get a panzer plate from these guys. Will keep your oil pan from gettin cracked.

Are you sure thats the right dip stick?

Being that you have a 99.5, I'm gonna assume you have projector headlights right? The HID's will be a great upgrade. I'm not sure if the DDM kit is plug-and-play, I have VVME. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in and add something useful there.

There's no way you can track down where the leak coming from unless you look under the car. Like CCA4 said, clean the underneath first and see where it's coming from.

I know each year and different models of Audi has different dipsticks. Not particularly sure if it's gonna work but I think it would be better if you take it back and get the right one.

I'm not too sure about the two-piece pre-facelift headlights but if you have facelift, they are plug and play.

I had the 2-piece lights and they're NOT plug and play. I had to chop up the wiring harness and re-wire my new headlights in order to get the HID's to work.

Ok thanks for the help. I think im going to just get a new belly pan to be safe. My headlights are the 1 piece headlights. Does that mean i can just get that kit, plug em in, and then im good? i dont have to get new headlights?

The dipstick in my car is the one which you have got from the dealer, the bottom one with the two yellow tabs on it. I notice though in my car it doesnt seem to go all the way in, I think it stops at the 2nd tab and the rest is exposed - Not sure if there used to be a funnel there at one stage???

THere must be something up with it because I did an oil + oil filter change this morning and put in exactly 3.5 L as specified by the manual, and according to my dipstick its way over full - maybe because the funnel is missing it goes too far down into the engine and over_registers ????
Your new dealer one apprently over_registers as well...
Do you have a yellow funnel thing in your car? if thats missing maybe it goes in lower than it should >>> I ***THINK thats the case with me anyways......

There is supposed to be a funnel for the stick from the dealer. it sits in the oil tube that comes up from the pan and slides onto a clip that comes out to the left of the tube. then the sstick will slide into the funnell.. problem is the funnel is plastic and it sits close to the motor so naturally it cracks over time from heating up so many times.. they suckk.. mine cracked away like a month ago .. no way to get a true oil level reading.. the top stick in the picture looks like it would slide directly into the oil tube.. i would rather have that one.....

I went to Audi today, and found out that one of those yellow funnels costs $20.00AUD.
Not a problem there, just wandering how hard they are to fit ? seems like where you clip it on too is "way" down in the engine so do you have to take a lot of stuff off to get them on ?

in case you were wondering, i bought a new dipstick and funnel from partsbin for $20 before $5 shipping and for the funnel it was $10, not sure if it's the one you're looking for but my guess is that it probably is
