Default quick question about an engine swap. 1.8 to 2.0

is it a direct swap? I mean the does the motor mate to the 1.8 aeb tranny? Its got more displacement but is the block larger? Motor mounts need changing?

I am just curios

Or you can bore the 1.8 out to 2.0 - ask Mike-2ptzero or FasterA4ThanUrs about that.

There is nothing special about the 2.0T FSI motor, in fact it has more issues then the 1.8t motor.

Your best option is to just do a 2 liter stroker setup on your 1.8t. I have been running a 2 liter setup on my B5 A4 for 8 years now.

There are 2 different 1.8t motors, the 058 and the 06A. The stroker setups for those are difference because each of those blocks use a different 2 liter crank. The 06A is basically the same block setup as the 2.0T FSI motor, this is why the 2.0 crank used for a stroker setup on the 06A 1.8t block happens to be from a 2.0T FSI motor. The 058 block (1996-2000 A4 1.8t) uses the older ABA 2 liter crank.

If you are interested in doing a 2.0 stroker setup in your 1.8t feel free to PM me, you can also email me or call me directly using the info on the www.ringer-racing.com web site.

What Mike said, totally agree. With a 2.o FSI, you'll also need a whole lot more... fuel system, wiring harness, and ECU will all need to be swapped.

As for a VR6 swap... good luck with those timing chains.

I'd go with a 2.0L stroker if I had the money. A budget build could be done with an older 2.0 NA block, but you'd have to research that get the right parts.

Good luck!

If you are ripping the motor apart to do the timing belt if you got the 2.0fsi motor anyway, you could just refresh the whole thing elminating any problem you would have or at least making it even if you just stroked the 058.

Would you be able to just drop in the 06a in the car with the ecu, ecm, ect?? cuz that would be sooooo much easier in the long run if it is just a drag and drop.

If not I can see what I need to get started on...man its close to 1600 dollars =/

Fingers crossed

you would have to swap rods right because the stroke would be increased?

I think mike explained this already, but, in order to achieve 2.0 liters or greater (and there isn't much room past 2032cc in either block, 058 or 06a) you need to change crank, rods, and pistons.

As for tuning, you can use your stock ecu with a new tune written to it, or you can go Standalone Engine Management.

so i read you can use the aeb rods??? Just gotta change the crank to an aba. But which pistons have the clearance for the oil squirter and what size would be most effective?
