Default rear differential seal?

Is it commen for our differentials to leak? If so would someone be.able to tell me the.name of the seal I need to buy? I called the local stealership and they only gave me two options for the rear diffrential seals. The input amd output seals. I know its hard to tell what part could have gone out to cause.my diff to leak but any help would be appreciated.

I dont care what car you drive. For some reason the pumpkin on every car is prone to leaking. Next time you are following a jeep or a truck, take a look! you will most likely see the lower half all wet with gear oil. with that said,

take a clean cloth and wipe down the diff. When you look at it again, see if there is an obvious trial. If it were me, ide buy them both and say to hell with it lol

My rear differential has obviously leaked at some point as well. It might still be leaking. Has anyone replaced the seals? I was wondering how difficult it is.

Do all 3 as long as you've drained the oil.

I just did mine last weekend. There was oil all over the front extension piece of the diff, not hard to tell where the leak was. When I removed the bolt on the front diff mount, gear oil came out that had been sitting in there.

It's not a hard job, but it took the better part of a Saturday. I removed the front extension piece, and it took some time to pull the shaft out and change that seal. Once that was back together, I took the rest of the diff out and did the output shaft seals too. That took about 5 mintues per side with the diff on the bench.

Clean it up good before you put it back in so you can tell if you've got the leak stopped.
