Right now the car is in the shop, the thing is louder than a diesel so i was getting the timing chain tensioner fixed. Also the rear main seal is leaking so i got them done both same time just to save on the labour of opening up the front end twice.

I have a quick question, i just finished replacing the timing belt and timing belt tensioner to the updated design just over 1500 Kilometers ago. Really fresh. Mechanic called said that the car is fixed but then the oil temperature didn't work. So he had to reopen everything up and realized that the timing belt skipped a few teeth or something and the oil pump was not working.

Now hes telling me i have to replace the timing belt, and tensioner again. my question is would you have to change these two items again for this job or did he make some sort of mistake and im paying for the parts (timing belt and tensioner)?

I would show him the receipt of the timing belt service that you just had done and that everything was working fine before. Did you replace the timing belt or did you have a shop do it? Also how long ago was the timing belt service done?

The reason I ask is because it is real easy for a mechanic to say someone else is to blame if you have different people working on the car. I have never heard of a cam chain tensioner causing a timing belt to skip a couple of teeth, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Sound kinda fishy to me.

If it sounds like a diesel, then it's probably and exhaust manifold leak or a rod knock.

it was thee same mechanic that changed the belt, he said the new dampener is not reusable and he had to open it to get to the rear main seal. The timing belt is supposed to be done every like 75-80k miles. mine was done in 1500 kilometers. so i dont know
