well, basicallly you have to get a new instrument cluster, or you can send yours to get fixed for about $350, sometimes people sell instrument clusters with perfect screens and they usually go for about the same. it's not really hard to remove if thats what you mean (the instrument cluster) you cant remove the screen yourself! it's soldered to the motherboard!

I'd give that a shot if you've got the money.

Tonnes of threads and discussion on the subject on all of the Audi-related sites...and everyone is still waiting for a viable cheap solution.

There are supposedly a few folks who are now "waiting" for the LCD's to arrive from China. Their solution would be a send-to, or DIY depending if you wanted to dabble in the de-soldering, soldering. Price-wise, no details, but likely around $200. Basically all B5's have this problem to varying degrees.

Here is the link to one of the guys who is planning on making the repairs in the US.

So, if you are looking to purchase the car, use this as a bargaining chip and get at least $300 back out of the owner. In anycase, dead-pixels are not a reason to skip a good car/deal.

Cheers,

Steve

You wouldn't happen to be looking at that silver A4 in LI, would you?

Haven't sent mine there, and waiting for the US solution to come through. Macguyver over on AZ updated the site lately and looks like he will have the kits in this month, and it will be sub-$200.

The issue with the reman site noted above is that they are in the UK, thus it is going to cost you a decent amount of money and time to get it shipped overseas...not to mention getting the proper paperwork filled out so that you do not have to pay the various and sundry taxes/duties when it comes back to the 'States. Having sent plenty of things back and forth between the US and Europe, I would advise waiting for a local solution vs. the inherent hassles.
