Notice any more tire wear on the side that the bearing went out compared to the side that didn't? I'm kinda leaning toward an alignment probem as well.

The alignment will be checked. 100 Yards from the repair facility that has worked on the Audi is a Firestone Tire dealer with a laser alignment system. They did this car a few years ago and also my AWD Chrysler T&C.

Thanks for the suggestion.

My A4 was aligned about 10k miles ago, and hasn't hit anything hard since. No perceptible tire wear on either side.

The bearing that wore out in 5k miles was a Blaupart bearing (***, I think), and it seems that other posters have had luck with them.

I'm still leaning toward the Hub Tamer being the problem

Default wheel bearings

I have replaced 4 wheel bearings on my A4 within 60k miles. 1 in the front and 3 in the rear. Nappa sells a bearing manufactured by "***" yeah weird name I know, But i have had good luck with them so far...

From what I have read here there are two ways of getting the old bearing out and installing the new one.

Could it be that installing the bearing with a Hub Tamer could lead to mis-alignment and premature wear?

Is is better to remove the whole assesmbly and use a press to remove and install the bearing?

I am going to ask the repair facility which way they do it.

Default A-4 eating wheel bearings

I am very interested in how this discussion unfolds. My wife owns an '01 A-4 Avant that we bought from a single owner @110k. Same dealer and had all the repair papers.
First both rear wheel bearings sets went @123k , then the Lt rear one went @ 156k. Now the Rt went again @ 179. This time they aligned it. Should alignment have happened at the 2 prior bearing replacements??

Make sure they're not heating the hubs when they install the new bearings. Any decent shop will have a 20-ton press which is enough to remove them without heating them (we have one here and have done them with no heat). If they're heating the hubs they're probably damaging the bearing seals and allowing crap into the bearings. That'll fail them very quickly.
