Rear wheel bearing replacement issues with eccentric bolt aka camber bolt... Please help!
What he told me was that the bolt was really really stuck! Like almost fused to the other part...
Now, the method he used to take it out I din't quite understood, he said something about using some kind of press (or some kind of hammer) while the car was in the air.

What I ended up doing was spraying the hell out of the bolt with WD-40 and then I put an electric impact on it and kept spinning it, spraying it, and beating on it until it popped out. Ruined the nut and bolt but at least it came out. I don't understand it, only has 160,000 mi on it...LOL
I just went through the hell of removing the bolt talked about in this thread. I beat on it mercilessly and could not get it out. I could turn it, but what was happening is that it was stuck in the metal sleeve that it goes through. The bolt and the sleeve would spin together as one. The sleeve would simply spin on the rubber between it and the bearing carrier. I ended up cutting the bolt down with a 4.5" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel on either side of the control arm. I then trimmed one end down with an electric die grinder (Harbor Freight Special!) and a double cut carbide burr. I then pried the bearing carrier from the lower control arm. This turned out to be the easy part. I then spent a lot of time and effort trying to press out the rest of the bolt. Eventually I got it to move a little and I kept pressing it back and forth with lots of penetrant oil. My press would really build up pressure and BANG when the bolt finally moved a touch. I tried welding a little stud to the end of the press shaft, but most things I tried just bent or bulged and bent. I think this was the hardest thing I've done in a LONG time. Like I said, I eventually got it to press out but it took a LOT of force and patience. Now I've got to find a replacement camber bolt! So far the link on the first post (Still good 3.75 later!) is the only one I've found online. Update: The following day I got ahold of a foreign car repair place an hour away from me and they had the bolt, so I just drove up and got it (in my truck since the audi was down!) I think it was over $40 out the door!!!!!!!!!! The Audi is operational again today though. Jeff

I recently replaced the other sides wheel bearing (RR) and came up with what I think is a better way to get the camber bolt out. I tack welded the metal sleeve halves that the bolt gets stuck in to the control arm and then worked the bolt back and forth and side to side until it came out. Then, I cut the tack welds with a cutoff wheel, cleaned up the weld area and shot some paint back on. Worked pretty well. Jeff
