Default rearview mirror repair

i've been trying to find some adhesive to mount my rearview mirror back on and have even taken it to a shop twice to get it professionally done, yet it continues to fall down.

my main problem with doing it myself, however, is that i am supposed to remove the mounting button (the hinge portion) from the mirror so that the adhesive can set for an hour or so, but i can't get the mounting button to disconnect from the mirror, so i end up having to hold it up as long as i possibly can without moving and this becomes difficult rather quickly.

my question is, is there a way to disconnect this mounting button from the mirror?

So simple. Go to wal-mart, buy an Apoxy stick...Read the directions, let sit for 15 minutes are you're mirror will be concrete. Did it on my a6, worked like a charm and only cost me $3.00

you said you couldn't hold it for an hour... the apoxy works fast. Use duck tape to hold it in place, or hit the gym.

the problem is holding it still without moving, not holding it up

and i've already tried generic apoxy and it didnt work, and i used duct tape.

i got professional supplies now, but the problem of holding it up remains... and it says to let the adhesive set for one hour

This is an old post and perhaps my first. I've seen and searched many threads and I understand the concepts of replacing this mirror.
What I noticed in this post is the OP has the same problem I do. The metal button that attaches to the mirror is still in the mirror. That button should be removed so we could progress to gluing it back on the black plastic thing currently attached to the windshield.

The problem is that the button is pretty flush with the mirror so I can't get any lockjaws on it to perform the 90 degree twist, thereby separating the mounting button from the mirror.

Holding the entire mirror on the windshield presents a hefty challenge, whereas if I could get that button out, I could glue it and tape it to it's old mounting spot on the windshield. Once hardened, I'd be able to reattach the mirror to the mounting button.

Does anyone have any experience removing the mounting button from the mirror?

Why not take it to elite/safelite or other windsheild company? I had an issue like this, the only difference was the mounting button came off the windshield with a chunk of glass attached. Apparently the PO broke the chunk out somehow and glued it back which stopped holding. Elite was able to ge the old button off so that the mirror couldn be reattached to the new windshield. Good luck
