I got an A1 Cardone half axle off usautoparts.net when my outer cv boot ripped / clicking started and haven't had any problems with it. Just be real careful to get the right one I had to send stuff back and forth because I got tripped up on the website and got one for an auto and I have a manual. Also it didn't come with the new axle bolt but that was pretty cheap from ecs

 

Yeah I'm definitely gonna get a MasterPro or Cardone cause I called the closest Audi dealership and they want $366 plus a $200 core. Spending almost $400 isn't something I'm willing to do for an axle.

 

Yeah dealership parts are always a little absurd and Cardone is good quality stuff. That's generally the brand used to replace anything on the a4 or passat at my house. I actually managed to do the removal and install of the new half axle without taking the pinch bolt out (I tried and it wouldn't budge.. The head actually snapped off and I have 3/4 of a pinch bolt stuck in there.) which might be something you want to consider attempting as it's generally a real pain whenever you have to do anything in there.

 

Go to Rockauto.com, the Cardone halfshafts are about 70 bucks, with no core charge. Just put one in my sons 96 a couple of weeks ago. They also have som RUP brand shafts for a bit more but they have a core charge. Shipping is really cheap as well, think it was 7 bucks to ship the shaft to MA.
