there is a wire from the alternator to the instrument cluster called an exciter wire.... which triggers the battery light.

I am having the same issues, alternator reading bad, so was starter. Replaced alternator with aftermarket sub from advance for my bosch. Reading at idle from alternator is 12v and voltage regulator is reading bad. Got underneath and cut open my block to body ground and it was fried. Replaced that and was super hopeful. Nada, same problem. Thinking abut replacing the positive battery cable bit it's 300 bucks. Don't want to take a shot in the dark if I don't have to.

It is pretty odd that the same alternatpr that another member bought from advanced is doing the same thing.

Any ideas?

 

You can check the cable with a multimeter. I wouldn't replace it without checking at LEAST once.

You've checked the belt is on correctly and the alternator is spinning when the car is running?
