I accidently messed with my battery and now my radio is locked.
Audi wants $60 to unlock it but I'm planning on getting a new radio pretty soon anyway.
So I'm wondering. Is my radio itself locked right now?
(the word SAFE comes up when i turn it on)
Or if I install a new system while that be locked as well?
Also, can I get it unlocked anywhere else?

 

The lock code should be somewhere on the radio/headunit manual.

The locking only happens to yout stock headunit, it won't effect aftermarket headunits.

 

Fresh to the site buddy. Did you find out what us "special people" do when we mess up the radio and put it in safe mode? I was p;aying with the batt too and the SAFE MODE is now permanent on my 02 A6... I had a 02 S4 and the manual had the code. But i DO NOT have the manual for the A6 I bought 3 days ago. Any help is greatly appriciated. Jason

 

well if u dont have the code then ur kinda stuck paying audi... just curious though... how do u have a new car without the code yet mine is a 96 and i still have EVERYTHING from original sale including the original window sticker price sheet thing? makes u wonder how the person before u actualy took care of the car lol

 

Dealers will give you the quote. You just need to provide them with the VIN number.
