Hi All

My B5 has been parked up for a while so the battery was flat. I had to push the car out to get to the battery however i put the car in R and then pushed the car backwards to a better position to jump the car. Since doing that reverse gear will not work properly, if i select Reverse nothing happens, however if i select reverse and give the car a push backwards it jumps into gear and starts reversing. Does anyone know what i might have done please?

I was wondering if the multifuction switch may need replacing perhaps?

 

Just a shot in the dark here, but See if it's stuck in reverse (by trying to drive it in first gear). If it is stuck in reverse, you may have caused an issue with your shift linkage.

 

hi, cheers for the reply, its not stuck in reverse, it moves to N,D & P fine, but its just when R is selected it does nothing unless the car gets a nudge

 

So it goes into reverse, but doesn't engage unless you push the car?
