Default Running fan in Passat

My wife called me today and said our Passat was making a weird noise. So I met her on lunch to check it out. The problem is then the car is running, the two electric fans are running full speed. When you turn the car off, they slow now to a dull humm, and stop running after a few minutes. Obviously its with the fan control. I did notice there is a wire harness at the top center of the fans that appears to be cracked. You guys think that might be the culprit? Any other ideas. I check the fusses too, and all seem to be ok. Its a B5.5 W8 if that helps at all.

Are you talking about the fan control module harness? There's a silver or black box with fins on it if I recall correctly, that controls the fan and it's mounted near the top of the fans. If that harness is bad, then yes, that could be your culprit. No MIL or codes?

Well, its just like two sets of wires that plug into each other. There isn't a box there. It doesn't have a CEL either.

Hm. Take a pic of the harness and post it.

Well, we took it to the shop because the CEL came on. It turned out to be only the coolant temp sensor. They also found that the tension pulley was missing about a third of the lip to keep the belt on. My wife also wanted to have them check the alignment, and it turned out we had a bad tie rod end. Just got it back yesterday.

ECT. Should've known. Glad you got it sorted out.
