Unhappy Seafoam Treatment Check engine light.

Hi I just finished doing the seafoam on my 1.8t. I did the vac line thing. The car run great after the seafoam treatment. Very noticeable difference however it triggered the check engine light. Drove it to church and back and still on. Should i be alarmed? What could cause that and how can i clear it? Anyone else had this happen to them? Thank you.

seafoam is notorious for cleaning out carbon. it is just as well known for killing 02 sensors =/ killed my primary one first time i did it

Clear the light if it comes back up clear it again and if it comes back again you have a issue

if you dont have a vagcom cable you can get one on ebay for cheap or $200 from vagcom also post up the error code it can be a vacum leak code which is no big deal easy fix

-It will clear by itself eventually (unless there's a real problem that's still there)
-You can use a scanner / VAG-Com
-You can pull the negative cable of the battery for a little bit, but this will screw with your radio, etc.

If you don't have VAG-COM or a scanner, go to AutoZone or some other big box parts store and they will read your codes for you. Write them down and post them. They can't clear the codes for you though (legally), so you will have to disconnect the battery for awhile. But, like Dragon said, it will mess with your radio, so make sure you find your code for the radio first (check your owners manual and stuff).

Thanks for all the replies guys! Really appreciate it! Sorry i was at work the whole day and wasn't able to post message right away. This morning when I started the car to warm up before heading to work, the check engine light is gone. So im assuming everything is okay now. Terribly sorry for the false alarm hehe. Just freaked me out and thought i did something wrong. However it created some high pitch vibrating sound off the engine =( Sounded like one of em vw jetta. Anyway while im here i might as well throw another question. I'm doing auto rx treatment as well and im trying to figure out how can i get the auto rx on the tranny. You think syringe will work? I dont think i can pour the bottle from the bottom. I dont have those tranny fluid kit yet. Imma buy the kit along with the tranny fluid when its due for changing after the auto rx treatment. And also you think i can mix the seafoam with the auto rx on the engine oil for maximum treatment? Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

p.s I'll definitely get the vagcom thing since you guys suggested it.

There are pressure fluid injectors for not much money... I filled mine by taking some sort of sensor (level sensor? temp sensor?) off the top passenger's side... It has a metal arm bolted down across this plastic thingy that you pull out and boom, a fill hole. (Not the official fill hole.) I used a funnel with a flexible spout.

No, not that hole. I am not that dumb. I am, however, dumb enough to claim it was driver's side... wrong. passenger's side. Besides, if I used the slave cylinder hole (which is sideways and facing the rear of the car and not accessible from the engine bay anyway), it would have poured right onto my floor after soaking my clutch.

I had the same check engine light scare on my first seafoam. Possibly the computer freaked because you disconnected the vac line, or it might have been the loss in octane when you put seafoam in the gas.
