Default Sensor? on top of air box. Not Maf

First of all hello. Second I love my Audi. Now my question, I own a 1999.5 A4 quattro 1.8 turbo. What is the sensor looking thing on the top of the airbox? It is held on by two screws/bolts and has two electrical leads to it.

*Update*

Dug around in a manual i downloaded and the thing on top of the airbox is called At Power Output Stage N122. Here is my new question: Is its location of consequence or can it perform its function anywhere so long as its intact and connected?

Its located there so that it stays cool... Mine was also glued to a heatsink (flat metal on top of the airbox, if you open up the airbox you will see a number of ridges on the bottom side) which was inside the airbox.. When i installed an intake i relocated both the output stage and the heat sink to another location (far away from the engine, and i also put some new heat conductivity gel between the heatsink and the power output stage ).. If you want to relocate it for whatever reason but leave the stock airbox, then removing the heatsink along with it would mean there would be a gaping hole in your airbox that you would have to solve.

Ive felt mine after driving for a while and its never been hot, I dont know how hot it would be without the heatsink but it would be a good idea to make sure they stay together, and away from extremely hot areas.

Thank you very much. Where did you relocate it to? If I may ask?

its your ICM.. Ignition Control Module. as long as its plugged in and has some where to dissipate its heat then you should be fine.. if you get a cone filter usually theres a place to mount it, depending on which intake you get.

Yeah mine said i could relocate it to where the bracket for the filter went which really didnt work out.. I ended up zip tieing to my metal A/C lines but im going to relocate it now that its summer because there will be condensation on those when i start using the A/C.
