Default Shaking Upon Acceleration Above 50km/h

Hey there,

I have recently had a shake develop when i accelerate above 50 km/h, below that everything is smooth. The shake is more pronouced when the engine shifts to a higher gear, and when going up a hill/incline. It feels as though its coming from the front. All my gear shifts are smooth, and you wouldnt know there is a problem below 50 km/h. Any ideas?

Edit: Automatic, 2.8L quattro, 215000km

Thanks!

engine mounts? might be alignment too. the shaking is probably from the sudden torque applied to the car when you shift to a higher gear and accelerate. the weird thing is you say your shifting is smooth.

Possibly, i should note as well that i did have new wheels and tires installed about 3 weeks ago, but i did not have the problem before a couple days ago.

do the wheels have hubcentric rings on them? are they balanced? maybe you lost a wheel weight a few days ago.

They were Audi R8 Replica rims, and the shop mentioned they had to put different rings on so that they would fit. If i had lost a wheel weight would it not make it out of balance below 50 km/h as well, or when im not accelerating?

Could this possibly be a electrical issue as well (spark/coil?), as it does seem like its has less power when the shaking is occuring.

the higher the speed the more you notice an out of balance wheel. you may not even realize it at a slower speed. if it was a spark issue you would have a flashing CEL for a misfire. it may be a transmission issue.

Alrighty, i looked at the wheels just to have a look at the weights and i noticed that the wheels on the driver side of the car have 9 weights on them and the wheels on the passenger side have 5 (F) and 6 (R) weights, is that normal?

yes every wheel is balanced individualy (u dont just balance one wheel and do the same thing to the other 3), so they could have different size weights and wat not....
