I probably have that part I can send you for little $$$... it's at my parents' house and I'll be there in the morning. Are you more concerned with condition or cost? I know it's not broken/damaged, but it definitely has ~140,000 miles on it. Also, this is a spare part since I upgraded my shifter to a facelift shifter.

I'm in southern California. Will have to check on the parts after work today.

Well I found the piece, as part of the whole ball/base assembly. The ball part seems like it doesn't want to come out of the base, do you know how it comes out?

There is a little up-and-down play where the ball sits inside the base, but these are plastic parts prone to wear over time. For all I know the original pieces had play in them too.
But this is why I upgraded to a facelift shifter with the JHM solid short-throw shifter.

Not sure if you still need this piece, but here's a picture of it (inside a bag):

MetalMan,

Thanks for the offer and tearing that out for me! I just caved in and decided to go JHM Short Shifter. It has been a great upgrade, although the second gear hang-up has improved it still does it from time to time. Most likely a rough synchro.

The install did not go smoothly. I must not have girly small hands like all of these people in these install videos. I had to just take out the entire center console to get it done. All of it is in now and the car is shifting fantastically. Great upgrade and totally worth the price. It was nice because the SS kit came with a new upgraded plastic base, so that was great.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Swapping the shifter on a pre-facelift car with the center console in is certainly more challenging than doing the same on a facelift car. I've picked up some tricks along the way and I can swap shifters rather quickly now, but I'm guessing this has been your first endeavor.

Good choice on the JHM shifter!

Yeah definitely my first one. It was a nightmare trying to get it in. I got it out without much issue, but putting back in was a pain to say the least.

Yeah I've heard great things about JHM and decided to just spend the money and get it. I've been very satisfied with it.

Have you considered the Solid Linkage Upgrade at all? It's another awesome part that will improve shifting feel even more! But you'd have to disconnect the lower linkage from the shifter, so I'm not sure if you would even want to do that again.
Just FYI, I found using a telescoping magnet works wonders for dropping the metal piece on top of the shift linkage in place (underneath the shifter). I also use a magnet to help me place the screw that secures the linkage to the shifter.

I will end up doing that for sure because I still have play in the shifter which I'm sure is caused from the linkage. That may be exacerbating my notchiness in 2nd gear even further.
