Default Small issue(starting)

K so the car seems to have trouble starting. once on it runs perfect battery level looks good but when starting seems like the battery level drops aand barely gives any power. could it be the battery or waht else could it be cause once on it runs good and every thing idles good ect. just starting seems bad. like if you but the key in and try to turn on right away it wont start you have to put the key in turn forward wait a second then start but its still not a strong start. battery connection maybe?

Are you saying there is a delay between turning the key all the way and when the engine actualy turns over? If so then definitely suspect your ignition switch or starter solenoid (starter.) If you have a 97, the ignition switch is a common failure, and if I remember right- it may be recalled.

It's a super duper idea for you and everyone to put your yr/engine/etc. in their signature. Helps people answer questions more easily.

yea its a 97 1.8t sorry had all taht info on there before.
i guess its like a delay i dont know what its called but it just takes longer to start it seems like you gotta hold the key turned for a few "cranks" till it gets enough energy to start up.

So it's a weak crank and turn over? No delay between turning the key and the engine actualy attempting to crank? Could just be an old starter- meaning the solenoid is getting lazy, or a battery on it's way out. How old is the battery? If it is the battery then you'll only have so many weak starts before it finaly quits. How long has it been like this?

I get what you mean. My 97 was the same way. I think it probably has to do with the starter being 13 years old. The solenoid has coils in at that draw quite a lot of current to make your starter work. Those coils can wear out and draw less current over time which would cause a slower than "normal" crank. Your battery should have a date on it.
