Default smoke problems

Hi,
I have a 98, V6, 2.5 TDi A4 Quattro. Recently I have been getting smoke from my exhaust. Thought it was burning oil, but its not. The engine runs sweet as a nut. There was a chip in it when I got it a while ago.
The smoke is not affecting performance. I have heard it may be using more diesel than normal, but it seems not.
Anyone out there got any ideas ?

Thanks.

hi guys,
Thanks for your help. I had not thought about the turbo, you may well be right, the thing had a chip in it when I got the car, a while back, it may have run its time. I will get it checked. Thanks again.
