The stealership quoted me 700 dollars to install a new one including the price for a new one. I said **** that ****, and decided to DIY it. Problem is I need to buy an alternator online for cheap. I have a 2001 audi a4 b5 2.8 v6 30v. Which one should I buy thats cheap but good?

Pepboys and Autozone about $150, ebay will run you $100. Alternators are pretty basic so they are all about the same. Not much difference between a $100 and a $500 one.

 

Thing is, from what a friend found, there are several different ones. You need to see which you have and then get the proper one.

 

Well I bought one for $112 off ebay, and having a friend help me install it. Hopefully it works, it said it was for my car, but for $100 bucks I wouldnt be surprised if it doesnt. Also I hope it fixes my problem, because although every diagnostic shop says its the alternator, I have a feeling its something else. In the mean time, I ******* hate taking the bus..
