Default Start up Issues

Hi guys,
I have a 1999 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro with 160K kms on it. Took it into the shop to fix an oil leak...it went dwn hill from there. After the leak was fixed (ie Oil filter Gasket). Drove it back into the shop to fix the burnt out foglight and after that it wouldn't start. We thought it was the battery so we connected it to a charger, everything lit up but still engine won't crank, found out the starter was the problem cos it worked after a few taps with a hammer. The new starter was ordered over the weekend...By monday the battery was completely flat. They put it on a charger and after a while tried it again, still nothing. They figure the throttlebody sensor was bad, so I had them order a whole complete throttlebody. Installed it and it still won't start, It just turns over and won't run...this is the 3rd week in the shop and I'm stumped. Don't know what to do..Sorry for the long rant. I just really want my car back. Any suggestion? I already searched similar threads but none with quite the answer to my problem.

If you're paying a shop to fix your car yOure paying toO much. They should be the ones doing the legwork to figure out the problem.

Well its my only car and I'm tired of taking the transit to work and school so I'd like to get back on the road soon. Also I like to know what's being done to my car cos I've had experience with mechs putting in parts that weren't needed and charging me for something that was probly fine anyways.

That's exactly what it sounds like is happening now. You said "they figure" the throttle position sensor is bad. What makes them think so? Did they do a Vagcom scan on the car to tell them this? And if so and the TPS was indicated, why spend all the extra money to get a whole new throttle body?

As for the fog bulb, do it yourself. Get a 10mm socket and a ratchet, take 5 minutes, and replace it. Piddly **** like that, as well as shelling out money on what sounds from yor post to be hunches from non-Audi specialists, is gonna have you living on the street before long.

Yeah that's what I was trying to hint at. Sounds like they're trying to "take you for a ride".
